ACA, EngNZ & SCANZ Members and guests are invited to attend the second technical meeting in Wellington for 2021, organised by the Wellington Division of The Australasian Corrosion Association NZ Branch Inc.

Subject:         How Durable is your Timber

Speaker:       Nick Marston, Materials Team Leader, BRANZ

Nick’s work combines managing a team of scientists and technicians working on a portfolio of research and commercial projects with laboratory and field research.  His research includes managing the surveying of New Zealand’s House Condition Survey, examining the resilience of buildings and materials, as well as researching the effects of environmental exposure on plastics and metals.

Nick will reprise his paper presented to the 2021 SESOC Conference in Hamilton.  This explored the dependence of timber durability on the timber choice, treatment and the surrounding environment.  It also discussed the effects of exposure of timber and fasteners to environmental factors such as moisture, solar and UV radiation, temperature fluctuations and atmospheric contaminants that can impact its expected long-term durability.
