Paint not compliant with new rules must be disposed of by 1 September 2025.

The EPA recently amended several group standards to reduce allowable lead impurity levels and strengthen controls on paint products. These changes came into effect on 1 March 2025. From that date, paint being imported or manufactured must comply with the amended group standards.

The amended group standards include:

• Surface Coatings and Colourants

• Aerosols

• Corrosion Inhibitors

• Graphic Materials

Paint already in New Zealand (stock in trade) that do not meet the amended group standards may continue to be sold and used during the transitional period, but must be disposed of no later than 1 September 2025, in accordance with the Hazardous Substances (Disposal) Notice 2017.

Happy New Year to everyone. We hope you all have a fantastic year.

Your Committee has been working on bringing you, our members, more benefits for 2021 and beyond.

These include:

more events next year, at least once every month, starting with
- tour of HMNZS Wellington Navy ship third week of February
- technical talk on underwater coatings on 25th March
2021 convention, in Hamilton, with great speakers, and more accommodation choices
a new, revised website, with more capabilities and an area to highlight our advertisers and sponsors
greater use of social media to keep everyone up to date, and hopefully attract some new members
access to webinars
change to the credit card payment system, saving $1,200 per year
more significant interaction with the Coatings Societies International Association for updated international information and cooperation

We look forward to catching up you all next year and wish you and your families a safe and happy 2021.
