Chateau Tongariro
Chateau Tongariro sits on lush forested slopes that lie within Tongariro National Park in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island. The hotel is roughly midway between the cities of Auckland and Wellington, which are both around 4 hours away by car. Offering views of the majestic volcanic peaks of Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngauruhoe (Mt Doom in the Lord of the Rings films), the hotel is only 7 km from Whakapapa, the largest ski field in New Zealand. Visitors can enjoy skiing on mountain pistes from June to October. The surrounding area’s breathtaking scenery encompasses beech forests, lakes, rapids and waterfalls, while the Tongariro Alpine Crossing offers world-renowned trekking opportunities.
